Middle Aged Biker Wannabe Questions?

AFter riding motorcycles for 15 years I gave them up to raise a family. I was a safe rider- no serious wrecks, no showing off. As an old guy with kids leaving or left, I find myself lusting after the fun and excitement of a bike. I've got my license back, test road several bikes. I want to do 2 and 3 hour trips. Suggestions on if I'm crazy or not and if not, suggestions on bikes welcome. Looked at HDs, FJRs and ST1300s. Loved them all.
